独フラウンホーファー太陽エネルギー研究所（ISE）は、摂氏140度の比較的低い温度でディーゼル・パティキュレートフィルターを燃焼再生する技術を開発している。酸化炭素と水素の混合ガスである合成ガスを酸化触媒に注入すると着火点が140度に下がるという。合成ガスは、ディーゼル燃料を空気のない状態で熱する熱分解または僅かな空気で軽油を不完全燃焼させる部分酸化法により組成することができる。ISEは現在、ある企業と部分酸化法を試験しているという。
