英エコカー情報サイト「グリーンカーウェブサイト」によると、独高級車メーカーのBMW はこのほど、「アクティブハイブリッド3」と「アクティブハイブリッド5」に搭載するリチウムイオン電池を米A123システムズから調達すると明らかにした。両モデルに搭載されるのはA123システムズのシリンダー型電池「32113」。同電池はホイールアーチとトランクエリアの間に配置されているため、トランクルームの容量は375リットルとなり、BMW「5シリーズ」のセダンに比べ145リットル狭くなるという。
