商用車大手MANのゲオルク・パハタライホーフェン社長はこのほど、事業提携に向けて開始した同業Scaniaとの交渉を加速する考えを明らかにした。新しいタイプの駆動装置の共同開発などが焦点になるという。両社に提携交渉を促したのは欧州自動車最大手のVolkswagen（VW）。VWはScania株を70％、MAN株を約30％持つ。Scaniaは以前MANから敵対的な買収を仕かけられたため、MANに対する警戒心が強く、両社の提携交渉はこれまで宙に浮いていた。
