BMW のライトホーファー社長は18日の株主総会で、早ければ来年にも「5シリーズ」のフルハイブリッド車を発売する方針を明らかにした。将来は「3シリーズ」などにもハイブリッド車種を投入するとした。同社長は、日本市場ではハイブリッド車の販売が急速に伸びていると述べ、日本市場の需要に対応することがハイブリッド車を拡充する主な理由の1つであることを示した。「ハイブリッド車をラインアップに加えなければ日本市場では戦えない」としている。
