独ダイムラーの高級車ブランド、メルセデス・ベンツ では今後も12気筒エンジンの開発・生産を続ける方針だ。同社のハンス・マルトハウプト開発部長（上級車・高級車担当）は、例え8気筒で同じような出力が出せるとしても、「エンジンの王様」である12気筒エンジンは高級車にとっては欠かせないとの見解を示している。独自動車産業ニュースサイトの『オートモービル・インダストリー』が6日報じた。
