独化学大手のランクセス は年内にも、ブラジルのトリウンフォ工場でサトウキビを原料としたエチレンプロピレンゴム（EPDM）の生産を開始する計画だ。同国の石油化学会社ブラスケムからブラジル産のサトウキビを原料としたエチレンの供給を受ける。トリウンフォ工場では現在、石油由来のエチレンやプロピレンを原料としたEPDMを年4万トン生産している。ランクセスはこのほか、オランダのヘレーン、ドイツのマール、米テキサス州のオレンジにもEPDM工場を持つ。
