独高級車メーカーのBMW は炭素繊維を使用した部品の生産に向け、ドイツのヴァッカースドルフ工場に2,000万ユーロ、ランツフート工場に4,000万ユーロを投資する。同社は2013年に発売予定の「メガシティ・ビーイクル」と呼ばれる新モデルに炭素繊維素材を使用した軽量部品を採用する計画。両工場で加工した部品はメガシティ・ビーイクルの最終組み立てを行うライプチヒ工場に供給する。
