英エディンバラ大学の研究チームはこのほど、光を用いて水から水素を製造する光触媒の原子構造に関する研究を発表した。研究チームが開発した新しい光触媒は幅広い温度環境で水素を生成できるため、水素燃料を低価格で効率的に生産できるようになるという。水素を動力源とする自動車の量産化に向けては、水素の生産コストの低減や生産効率の改善、水素供給スタンドのインフラ整備などが課題となっている。
