ドイツのフラウンホーファー構造耐久性・システム信頼性研究所（LBF）は7月1日、LBFと同じくダルムシュタット市にあるドイツプラスチック研究所（DKI）を統合した。これに伴い、LBFは新部門「プラスチック」を開設し、新素材や軽量化技術、機能性プラスチックなどの研究に取り組む。例えば、電気自動車などに高い需要があると見込んでいる。
