独経営コンサルティング大手のローランド・ベルガー はこのほどまとめた電気自動車およびリチウムイオン電池に関するレポート「Powertrain 2020―The Future Drives Electric」の中で、2014～17年に米国と日本では特にバッテリーの生産能力が過剰になる恐れがあると指摘した。これまでに公表されている投資計画が実現すると、生産能力は2015年までに需要の2倍に達すると予想。現時点で公表されていない投資計画も含めると、生産能力はさらに過剰になると指摘している。
