化学大手のBASFは5日、ブラジル農牧畜研究公社（Embrapa）と共同開発した遺伝子組み換え(GM）大豆「Cultivance」の商業栽培を同国の当局が承認したと発表した。同社のGM作物が栽培許可を受けるのは今回が初めてで、BASF Plant Scienceのペーター・エッケ社長は「新しい時代の幕開けだ」と喜びを表明した。BASFが開発したGMポテト「Amflora」は欧州連合（EU)への栽培申請を1996年に提出したにもかかわらず、加盟国の根強い反対を受け現在も許可されていない。
