高級車大手Daimlerのツェッチェ社長は5月28日北京で、中国にエンジン工場を新設すると発表した。現地の新車需要拡大に対応する狙いで、同国仕様車専門のエンジンを2013年から生産する。中国には今後数年間で、同エンジン工場も含め総額30億ユーロを投資する予定だ。Daimlerの中国乗用車販売は昨年の6万7,000台から今年は10万台強に拡大する見通し。2015年には30万台に達し、Smartを除く乗用車販売（150万台)の20％を占めるようになると予想している。
