電機大手のSiemensはソーラー事業を原則として内部成長で拡大していく。以前に実施したソーラー企業の買収が業績の足かせ要因となっていることが理由。ソーラー・水力発電部門の統括責任者への取材をもとに19日付『ファイナンシャル・タイムズ（ドイツ版）』紙が報じた。太陽電池業界では現在、経営難に陥る企業が多く、Siemensによる買収に望みをかける経営者もいるが、同統括責任者の発言はそうした期待に水を差した格好だ。
